samasrita ye pada-pallava-plavam
mahat-padam punya-yaso murareh
bhavambudhir vatsa-padam param padam
padam padam yad vipadam na tesam

samasritah—having taken shelter; ye—those who; pada—of the feet; pallava—like flower buds; plavam—which are a boat; mahat—of the total material creation, or of the great souls; padam—the shelter; punya—supremely pious; yasah—whose fame; mura-areh—of the enemy of the demon Mura; bhava—of the material existence; ambudhih—the ocean; vatsa-padam—the hoof-print of a calf; param padam—the supreme abode, Vaikuntha; padam padam—at every step; yat—where; vipadam—of material miseries; na—none; tesam—for them.

For those who have accepted the boat of the lotus feet of the Lord, who is the shelter of the cosmic manifestation and is famous as Murari, the enemy of the Mura demon, the ocean of the material world is like the water contained in a calf's hoof-print. Their goal is param padam, Vaikuntha, the place where there are no material miseries, not the place where there is danger at every step.

athapi te deva padambuja-dvaya-
prasada-lesanugrhita eva hi
janati tattvam bhagavan-mahimno
na canya eko 'pi ciram vicinvan

atha—therefore; api—indeed; te—Your; deva—my Lord; pada-ambuja-dvaya—of the two lotus feet; prasada—of the mercy; lesa—by only a trace; anugrhitah—favored; eva—certainly; hi—indeed; janati—one knows; tattvam—the truth; bhagavat—of the Supreme Personality of Godhead; mahimnah—of the greatness; na—never; ca—and; anyah—another; ekah—one; api—although; ciram—for a long period; vicinvan—speculating.

My Lord, if one is favored by even a slight trace of the mercy of Your lotus feet, he can understand the greatness of Your personality. But those who speculate to understand the Supreme Personality of Godhead are unable to know You, even though they continue to study the Vedas for many years.

SRI NARAHARI SARAKARA THAKURA

Sri Narahari Sarakara Thakura was born at Srikhanda. Sri Krsnadasa Kaviraja Gosvami describes that the residents of Srikhanda formed a branch of the desire tree of love of God. "Sri Khandavasi (the residents of Sri Khanda) Mukunda and his son Raghunandana were the thirty-ninth branch of the tree, Narahari was the fortieth, Ciranjiva the forty-first and Sulocana the forty-second. They were all big branches of the all-merciful tree of Caitanya Mahaprabhu. They distributed the fruits and flowers of love of Godhead anywhere and everywhere. [C.C. Adi 10.78,79]

Sri Narahari Sarakara Thakura participated in all of Sri Gaurasundara's pastimes. Bhakti-ratnakara states: "Sri Sarakara Thakura's glories are most uncommon. In Vraja he is known as Madhumati, whose good qualities are unlimited."

One day, Nityananda Prabhu arrived at Srikhanda and said

to Narahari, "All right, we know who you are. So where's the honey?" In Krsna-lila, Narahari is the sakhi Madhumati, whose service is to supply honey for Sri-Sri Radha-Govinda and Their associates. So he immediately went to a nearby pond and filled a pot which immediately turned into honey. Nityananda Prabhu and His associates drank from this pot to their full satisfaction.

Sri Locana dasa Thakura was the dear disciple of Sri Narahari Sarakara. In his book Caitanya-mangala he introduces his guru in this way: "My Thakura (spiritual master) is Sri Narahari dasa Thakura, who is very influential amongst the medical caste. He is continuously absorbed in Krsna-prema, and in fact his body knows nothing but Krsna. To his followers he speaks about nothing other than love of Krsna. He was previously known in Vrndavana as Madhumati and was a storehouse of sweetness (honey), and very dear to Radharani. Now he is now present in Kali-yuga with Sri Gaurasundara as Sri Narahari. He is the keeper of the storehouse of love of Radha and Krsna." [Sri Caitanya-mangala, Sutrakhanda] Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakura, in his Gaura-arati kirtana, sings: "Narahari is fanning Gaurasundara with a yak-tail fan." Sri Narahari Sarakara Thakura was a very expert singer as well as poet. He has composed many songs about the pastimes of Lord Caitanya and Lord Nityananda. He composed a Sanskrit work entitled Sri Krsna Bhajanamrta. Gaurviraha-gita-padakalpataru is also attributed to him, although some scholar devotees doubt whether it is really his own composition.

Most of Narahari Sarakara Thakura's songs have gotten mixed up with Narahari Cakravarti Thakura's compositions (Narahari Cakravarti Thakura is the author of Bhakti-ratnakara). Therefore it is difficult to ascertain which are actually his. Before the appearance of Sri Gaurasundara he also composed many songs about the pastimes of Sri-Sri Radha and Krsna.

Narahari was the only devotee who had the adhikara (right) to do Gaura-kirtana in Gaurasundara's presence. Ordinarily, if anyone would praise Mahaprabhu in His presence, or chant His holy name, He would block His ears and call out "Visnu! Visnu!" Narahari, however, enjoyed the special privilege of being able to sing about Mahaprabhu in a very unique mood and with sweet descriptions of His transcendental beauty.

His disappearance is on the day, of the dark fortnight, in the month of Agrahayon.

 Sri Kaliya Krishna Dasa Thakura

Srila Kaviraja Goswami writes (Chaitanya Charitamrta-lila Adi 11:37.) that Kaliya Krishna Dasa Thakura was one of the principle devotees of Nityananda Prabhu. He knew nothing other than the lotus feet of Sri Nityananda Prabhu.

According to Srila Kavi Karnapura's Gaura-Ganodesha-Dipika (text 132.), he was one of the 12 gopals in Vrindavana, and in the pastimes of Krishna in Vrindavana was known as Labhanga, one of Krishna's cowherd boy friends. Here he is refered to as Kalah Krsnadasa or Kalakrsnadasa.

On the twelfth day of the dark moon in the month of Caitra, Sri Kaliya Krishna Dasa Thakura disappeared from this world. This is not the same Kaliya Krishna dasa who accompanied Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu to South India. At present, Kaliya Krishnadas's descendents live in different holy places in Bengal.

His birthplace is in the Bardhaman (Burdwan) district of West Bengal within a short distance from the Railway station at Katwa, at the village called Akai Hatta. This village is situated on the old king's road between Nabadwipa and Katwa. Akai Hatta is a very small village.
